Marriage that lasts...

About half of all pregnancies are unplanned. Some women get pregnant hoping that their boyfriends will want to marry them and that they will stay together forever. But when the boyfriend finds out about the pregnancy they may want the mom to discard the baby through abortion. They might agree to marriage, but the likely hood that the marriage will last is very low. Or they may leave because of the pregnancy and the deception of thinking the baby will help him stay will be quickly dissolved. I have known several families where the marriage did not survive when they got pregnant first then married. The divorce hurt the wife, husband and children; leaving scars that last a life time.

Using the baby to try to keep, trap, trick the father into a marriage relationship is not fair to anyone involved in the relationship. Yes the father should not be having sex with the mom before marriage, and because he is choosing to do so he is possibly self-centered, irresponsible, and immature...is that the "ideal" husband that the mom is looking for?

Waiting to find the best person to marry, a man that will love and cherish you for who you are usually comes later in life. For a teen, college student, or person in the early twenties it is good to know that long lasting relationships normally don't form until the mid to late 20's or later. When my parents were young things were different and getting married at a young age did mean a marriage for life. Today a marriage at a young age; especially a marriage that was prefaced by a pregnancy with the parents both young; usually ends in divorce. My parents were married young, they were 19 and 20 years old...and this July they will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. I was also married young, I was 21 years old for my first marriage ...yes notice I said my first marriage... it ended in divorce. If we would have had a child before marriage and still got married I don't think that our relationship would have lasted as long as it did. Also at 21 I did not think that I was young…but I was. Recent studies have also shown that brain development does not stop until age 21, so making major decisions like having sex, getting married and having children before the age of 21 is especially not wise.

Things that I wish I would have known then that I know now:

  • Wait for Mr. Right
  • Don't get married based on your emotions
  • Marriage takes a lot of work
  • Wait to get married until you are a whole person
  • The other person will not complete you...the movies are wrong when they portray that
A single mother is more likely to meet and marry her ideal husband later in life if she makes an adoption plan and places her child for adoption instead of choosing to parent as a single person.

Life Affirming Choices

Choosing to carry a baby to term allows the life that is growing inside to flourish once born. Some may think that abortion would be an easier choice for an unplanned pregnancy not realizing the consequences and that abortion is not an easy solution. For the baby, it's life will end...that is not easy; and for the mother emotional consequences, possibility of infertility later, possibility of consequences in future pregnancy's, and other health complications are more likely, i.e. breast cancer later in life.

Choosing life for your unborn child affirms life! God has a plan for the child's life, that is why the baby was created! Having an abortion takes away the child’s chance to fulfill God's plan.

Dads do make a difference!

This week I have had a taste of single parenting because my husband went to Tennessee to help his father after his surgery. We have managed without daddy in the home, but it has not been easy.

I know that my time as a bachelorette is temporary and that daddy will be home soon to love, nurture and help raise our children. Single pregnant ladies face the obstacle of having a fatherless home.

In a fatherless home, children are more likely to grow up in poverty.

In a fatherless home, children are more likely to abuse drugs.

In a fatherless home, children are more likely to go to jail.

In a fatherless home, children are more likely to get pregnant or get someone pregnant.

Dads do make a difference; single mothers can provide a father for their children through an adoption plan. Adoption saves the child from the damage that can come from being raised in a fatherless home. We have 2 parent, mother and father, couples approved and waiting to adopt a child.

Second Chance

Making an adoption plan provides a second chance for birth parents. Adoption is not an easy plan for a birth parent to follow but in the long run it provides a loving 2 parent home for a child that may otherwise grow up fatherless and it allows the birth mother to continue school, start a career, get her feet under herself, get into a committed relationship, get married, have stability before she starts a family, and many more opportunities.

Many single pregnant lady's feel initially that they could not place their baby for adoption, but they have not yet considered the responsibility of choosing single motherhood. My husband and I have 2 children and it is difficult for us together to successfully raise our children. If I were a single mother I know it would be much more difficult for me to be a successful parent.

Being a parent requires a lot of time, self-sacrifice, and money. The birthmothers that I have worked with that have made an adoption plan and chose an adopted family for their baby say it was the right decision for them and the baby.

Grief after placing the child into an adoptive family will occur, it is a very difficult decision! But we are here to support birth parents throughout the whole adoption process and beyond.

Adoption is a heroic act!

Adoption is the most loving and unselfish decision a mother in an unplanned pregnancy can make. Love is an action not just an emotion, taking action for the best interests of another person, regardless of one's emotions is love. One birth mother expressed this thought by saying, "I knew that my decision to place my daughter for adoption would be the hardest thing in the world for me. It was about my daughter. It was about what I could give her: a two parent home, a family, stability, a chance for a future."

Call me and I can share more experiences from other birth parents or connect you with a birth mother so you can learn from her experience.

Putting the Baby's Needs First

The one truly helpless, innocent person is a baby. Keep in mind who is most significant, the baby, and keep the baby first in your decisions. The baby needs you to act responsibly and unselfishly; that means don’t make decisions based on emotions, loneliness and being sentimental.

Many single mothers wish they had chosen to place their child for adoption just after a few weeks of caring for them. After a few weeks or a few months the single mother has formed an attachment to the child that makes it more difficult to make the decision to place the child for adoption, but it is not too late for the single mother to make that choice.

Life’s realities and issues along with statistics make it clear that adoption is the best choice for many single mothers and their babies. Whether or not adoption is chosen we here at the Christian Child Placement Service want to support you and provide you with information so you can make a fully informed decision about your pregnancy and child’s life.

Call or e-mail me to talk over your options and to become fully informed so you can make the best choice for your baby!
