University of the Southwest in New Mexico Adoption Help

The Christian Child Placement Service (CCPS) is a full service licensed New Mexico adoption agency.  Choosing an agency to work with while considering adoption is vital. There are large out of state facilitators and for profit agencies that advertise on the web that are not licensed in New Mexico and only want to use birth parents for the precious child they are considering placing for adoption. Ultimately they are not considering the current emotional needs of the birthparents, and continued emotional needs in the long run after the birth of the child.

CCPS provides various forms of assistance for birthparents considering adoption.

At CCPS the birth parents select the adoptive parents they want to raise their baby.

A CCPS caseworker is available to take birth mothers to doctor's visits so they don't have to go alone.

After the baby is placed in the adoptive home pictures and letters can be provided to the birth parents if they desire communication.

Support is always available...whenever someone in an unplanned pregnancy needs us; we are here to talk day and night!

We continue to support the birth parents throughout the pregnancy and beyond, helping them get connected to resources that will aid them in life after a placement.

There is no easy solution to an unplanned pregnancy. Each option with an unexpected pregnancy is hard and has its own difficulties. The birth parent can empower themselves by getting as much information as they can get about their options. So they can carefully and weigh each option to be able to make the right decision for them and their baby.

New Mexico Adption Bill HB125 (Adoption Services) Passed the House

HB125 (Adoption Services) passed the House yesterday, 65 for 1 against 3 absent/excused) after a long wait and delays.

HB158 (Adoption adverrtising) will be voted on Monday early in the day as it is at the top of Monday's agenda. I am very confident HB125 will pass very easily thanks to all your hard work. HB158 is a much less complicated bill and has a lot of support thanks to your emails and phone calls.

Sometime next week these two bills will be assigned to one or two committees in the Senate and we can start contacting the committee members and Senators. We will have a little lag time on this because the bills that started in the House can't cross over to the Senate until the Senate has processed all it's bills.Once the Senate finishes it's bills their bills will pass over to the House. Representative Park did a great job presenting them in committees and before the House.

We have a good chance of passing these bills because Representative Park got them rolling early and because of his leadership skills and positive relationships in the House and the Senate.

Western New Mexico University Unexpected Pregnancy Help

The thought of sharing the news of an unexpected pregnancy can be overwhelming. How do you choose the right time? The right words? What reaction will you get? Despite your fear, try to talk to others who love you and can help you instead of carrying both your baby and your news by yourself. No matter what you eventually decide is the best plan for your baby, you will need support.

Sharing Your Pregnancy
Just as you may have been in shock when you first learned you were pregnant, the people you tell may be stunned too. But just as you eventually moved from shock to planning, so will other people. Give them time to process their initial emotions. Don't make any lifelong decisions based on their first response. An unplanned teenage pregnancy can stir up many different emotions and everyone may need time to calm down, or their reaction may surprise you.

Only you know the best approach for the important people in your life, but here are some general tips:

•First, confirm your pregnancy with a doctor. Be sure you didn't get a false positive from a home pregnancy test.
•Practice telling someone supportive, but be prepared for the range of reactions you might get.
•Take a supportive person with you.
•Don't break the news at work or school or immediately after someone comes home from work or school.
•Start with how you are feeling, what you need, and why you are telling them. This may help them empathize with you.
•Write a letter if talking is too difficult. Don't use e-mail or text messaging.
•Don't ask for any immediate decisions.
•If you are worried about getting physically hurt, first plan for a safe place to go and arrange for a way to get there.

We provide information on all of your options with an unexpected pregnancy so you can make the decision about what option is right for you and your baby. Contact us today!

University of New Mexico Birth Parent Adoption Rights

In today's adoptions, an expectant parent plays the central role in deciding on what type of an adoption plan is best for them and their child, while the expectant parent is cared for throughout the adoption planning process. An expectant parent considering an adoption plan, has the right to:

1.Be treated with dignity and respect, not judgment or criticism.

2.Explore all options in a non-directive, non-coercive environment, including parenting and all levels of openness in adoption.

3.Be fully informed about legal rights during the decision-making stage.

4.Choose the prospective adoptive family.

5.Develop an adoption plan with your counselor and the adoptive family.

6.Spend time in the hospital with the baby.

7.Make the decision about adoption after the birth of the baby. Planning for adoption does not make it a final decision, and an adoption plan does not become definite until legal papers are signed releasing birth parents rights after the birth.

8.Sign relinquishment papers when the birth parent is ready.

9.Have all questions answered honestly and completely, at any stage.

10.Have the birth parents relationship with their child acknowledged and their grief and loss recognized.

11.Receive post-placement support.

There is no easy solution to an unplanned pregnancy. Each option with an unexpected pregnancy is hard and has its own difficulties. The birth parent can empower themselves by getting as much information as they can get about their options. So they can carefully and weigh each option to be able to make the right decision for them and their baby.

We Care- Local New Mexico Adoption Agency

Considering adoption is a big decision, it takes a tremendous amount of unselfish love. Choosing an agency to work with while considering adoption is vital. There are large out of state facilitators and for profit agencies that want to use birth parents for the precious child they are considering placing for adoption. Ultimately they are not considering the current emotional needs of the birthparents, and continued emotional needs in the long run after the birth of the child.

We care about people experiencing an unplanned pregnancy! We are local here in New Mexico and will support birth parents throughout the adoption process. We will help them look at the pros and cons of each of their options so they can choose what is best for them and their baby. We will support them throughout whatever decision they make.

We have approved adoptive families that live in New Mexico and that live out of state. So by choosing to work with our local adoption agency that will support them, they can also choose a local family or a family from out of state depending on your desires. The key is that we are a local agency that will not defraud birth parents we will support them and enable them to follow through with their choice knowing they have continued support to achieve their goal with their pregnancy.

At the Christian Child Placement Service we know that choosing the best option with an unplanned pregnancy is a very difficult decision. We want to provide information on all of options so a fully informed decision can be made so birthparnts can decide what is the best option for their unexpected pregnancy.

10 Foods to Eat During an Unexpected Pregnancy

Convenience foods that taste good are one of the luxuries of modern living – it's just unfortunate that so many of them are full of preservatives and other ingredients you should steer clear of during pregnancy. But there are a number of quick and easy foods that are genuinely good for you, especially if what you need is a light meal or snack to tide you over until your next full meal. Here are ten tasty foods to try:

Healthy "fast foods"

1. Fruit
Grab an apple, banana, pear, orange, or another favorite fruit. Or if you prefer, try those handy little 4-ounce fruit cups, which count as one serving toward your daily recommendation for fruits and vegetables during pregnancy. Choose varieties packed in their own juice rather than in sugary syrup.

2. Raisins
A small (1 1/2-ounce) box provides a little boost of fiber, iron, and potassium while satisfying a sweet tooth.

3. Yogurt
One 6-ounce container of this classic nutritious-and-convenient food can provide 25 percent of your daily calcium requirement, as well as protein and several necessary vitamins and minerals. If the label says "live and active cultures," you'll also get the benefit of probiotics – helpful bacteria that aid digestion and protect your digestive tract.

4. Make-it-yourself trail mix
Add a cup of whole grain cereal to a handful of your favorite dried fruits and nuts (try dried cherries and almonds, or dried cranberries and walnuts). Keep it in a resealable bag in your desk or car for a handy, crunchy snack.

5. Salad bar
Some fast-food restaurants and many grocery stores have salad bars where you can serve yourself practically a whole day's worth of fruits and vegetables. Load up on spinach, carrots, tomatoes, celery, cucumbers, and zucchini. Add nuts, chickpeas, and kidney beans for a protein boost, and top with raisins for iron, fiber, and potassium.

6. Baby carrots
Carrots are full of vitamin A and fiber, and you can find them in single-serving bags. Dip them in hummus or yogurt for an extra dose of nutrition or add a dab of salad dressing for flavor. Look for other prewashed veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, and spinach to make a quick dinnertime stir-fry.

7. String cheese
If you don't know about string cheese now, just wait until your baby is a toddler – this food is likely to become a favorite snack. Low-fat mozzarella sticks are full of calcium, and one stick provides the same amount of protein as an 8-ounce glass of milk.

8. Orange juice fortified with calcium and vitamin D
Just half a cup provides half the daily requirement of vitamin C and about 15 percent of your calcium needs. Grab a juice box (check the labels for maximum fortification) when you're on the go.

9. Whole grain cereal or instant oatmeal
Stash a few single-serving packages in your desk at work for a quick, filling snack. Almost all breakfast cereal is now fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, including folic acid.

10. Fat-free or low-fat cottage cheese
Cottage cheese is a good source of protein and a fair source of calcium. Look for single-serving containers in the dairy section of most grocery stores. Top with fruit or throw in a handful of nuts and dried fruit to make things more interesting.

5 Foods to Avoid in an Unplanned Pregnancy

Foods to avoid
1. Packaged ramen noodles
Read the label: These quick-cooking noodles are packed with salt, fat, and little else.

2. Soda
If you fill up on empty calories and sugar, you won't have any room for more nutritious drinks. Low-fat milk, water, and juice are better choices.

3. Shelf-stable commercial lunches
Sure, they're a quick fix for hunger pangs, but preservatives, salt, and fat make most of them a poor choice. There are some okay packaged lunch options out there, though, so check the labels!

4. Too many frozen prepared meals
There are some good choices out there, but many have astronomical amounts of salt and fat. Instead, pop a potato in the microwave, then top it with cheese and steamed broccoli for a fast, healthy meal. If you can't avoid the occasional frozen meal, look for organic brands that are low in salt and fat.

5. Iceberg lettuce
When it comes to lettuce, choose greens, such as romaine, that are full of fiber, A and C vitamins, folic acid, calcium, and potassium. Iceberg lettuce has only trace amounts of these nutrients.

The Value of Standing for Life

by: Jim Daly
The Focus on the Family Broadcast,  "The Value of Standing for Life," is about life and death. It's about, among other things, the abortionist Dr. Kermit Gosnell. He is being charged with gruesome, cold-blooded murder of little babies. But today's discussion is also about hope. We don't just talk about evil - we look at how the Lord might use us to help stop it. The answer to that question is cause for encouragement and inspiration.

to listen to the broadcast: http://listen.family.org/daily/A000003079.cfm

This isn’t about politics or political correctness. This is about human beings and the death of human beings. It is high time this entire nation should come together and say, “Wait a minute. We’re better than this.”

Focus on the Family remains committed to seeing Roe v. Wade overturned. But in the meantime, I want to pose a challenge to Planned Parenthood and abortion activists. They continue to talk about abortion being “safe, legal and rare.”

Let’s consider:

Abortion by its nature is not safe. It’s certainly not safe for the child and in some cases, like we’ve seen with Dr. Gosnell, it’s not even physically safe for the mother. That’s not to mention the long-term emotional devastation that often accompanies this tragic choice.

As I ponder the heaviness of the moment, here is where I think the Lord is leading us:

We will continue to march toward that day when every life is seen as sacred. That is our ultimate aim. In the meantime, I continue to think about the babies that we’re losing right now. It’s time that we sit down with abortion advocates and lay down a challenge. In essence, say to them: “You want to make it rare? Tell us how.”

We won’t ever agree that it’s safe or that it should be legal. We’ll continue to fight for the day that we can overturn Roe v. Wade, because every life is sacred. But I see this as a positive step forward in that fight.

I take my hat off to all those who have labored with such dedication and sacrifice to advance the pro-life cause over these last few decades. Over the years, you, and we, have done great things to incrementally improve a very evil reality. Babies have been saved. Hearts have been changed. But it doesn’t appear we’re going to reach our ultimate goal of eliminating abortion any time soon. So what do we do right now to save more babies this year that will be lost if we don’t sit down and see how we can make it more rare?

Again, this doesn’t mean we agree. We will not compromise our convictions. But how do we save more children who would otherwise be aborted?

The Lord is on our side. The majority of Americans are on our side. Technology is on our side. And now I think we can seize the opportunity to begin to prove that life is the better choice and, at some point, the only choice.

I want to hear from you. What do you think? Post your comments - I want to read them. I want to know what you think about what we’re talking about. What is the Lord putting on your heart?

In addition to prayer and your witness in your sphere of influence, there are other practical things you can do to help in this ongoing defense of life. I encourage you to visit our CitizenLink website to learn more.

I was reminded the other day about the motto of the Army Corps of Engineers. I think it sums up the spirit of our challenge today as pro-life advocates:

The difficult we do immediately. The impossible takes a little longer.

Let’s work toward saving more babies starting today, and let’s continue to work and pray and sacrifice for that day when all babies will be welcomed into life.

Adoption Agency- New Mexico

In the past, many expectant parents have not chosen adoption because they have had little control or influence on what the future will hold for their child. In today's adoptions, an expectant parent plays the central role in deciding on what type of an adoption plan is best for her and her child, while she is also cared for throughout the adoption planning process. As an expectant parent considering an adoption plan, you have the right to:

2.Explore all of your options in a non-directive, non-coercive environment, including parenting and all levels of openness in adoption.

Food-borne risks during an unexpected pregnancy

Pregnant women should avoid eating raw or undercoked meats, poultry and eggs because they can increase their risk in getting a food born illness.

A pregnant woman could pass some of the illnesses along to their unborn baby.  Some affected babies develop vision and hearing loss, mental retardation, seizures and other problems.

Pregnant women should avoid foods made with partially cooked eggs, like egg nog, hollandaise sauce and ceser salid dressing.

Ethical Adoption Practice in New Mexico, House Judiciary Committee, Advocates Needed

Dear Advocates for Ethical Adoption Practice in New Mexico:

HB 125 and HB 158 got a “do pass” 2/10/11 from the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee whose members have told us that hundreds of you contacted them. Thank you for all your thoughtful comments to this committee. Some pasted pictures of their children into their emails. Others spoke passionately of how important it was to them that the birth parents are supported in an ethical, fully legal process. Adoption professionals spoke of the ethical challenges they have experienced with predatory adoption. Thank you again for your commitment, passion & action necessary to make these bills become law in New Mexico.

The bills will be scheduled in HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE and may be be heard next week Wed 2/16/11 or Friday 2/18/11. Judiciary is a big committe and can be challenging. We seriously need your calls and emails. If we get a “do pass” from Judiciary then our bills go before the full House for a vote. If approved they will then be passed over into the Senate where they will be assigned to at least one committee (probably Senate Judiciary).

RECAP OF THE PROBLEM Over the last ten years, adoption in New Mexico has fallen prey to profit-driven, out of state adoption businesses not licensed here. NM licensed professionals and vulnerable residents involved in an adoption process often face a serious crisis. These Predatory adoption businesses attract unsuspecting birth parents and adoptive parents to them through large-scale advertising. They provide informal but costly adoption services for months. They wait until the last moment to contact NM licensed professionals to furnish the minimum legally required adoption service. With much hanging in the balance, we discover that those we represent may have been misinformed of the facts involved in their adoption, and their rights and requirements in a New Mexico adoption process during a most emotionally vulnerable time.

HB125 (Adoption Services) expands the definition of adoption service and requires NM licensure for those who provide those services within our state. It would also require an accounting to and approval from a NM Court for disbursements paid on behalf of an adoption before a NM child may be moved to another state, (provides more jurisdiction). It also provides for more penalties for violators.

HB 158 (Adoption Advertising) would require that out of state adoption businesses not licensed or permitted to provide adoption services here to say so in their advertisements. The public is not able to determine who is a legitimate adoption service provider in this advertising. It also provides for more penalties for violators.

Please take 15 minutes out of the next few days to contact House Judiciary members. Ask them to vote YES on HB 125 (adoption services) and HB158 (adoption advertising). Please use your own words, pictures or whatever. Include your name and your address. Help us close legal loop-holes used by predatory adoption businesses in New Mexico. Restore ethical practice in adoption

1) Call Representative Al Park’s office at 505 986-4411. Thank him for sponsoring HB125 and HB158 and the awesome job he did advocating for our legislation before the committee.

To see the full legislation go to http://www.nmlegis.gov/

2) Call or email the 15 members of House Judiciary (below) by Wed Feb 16th noon. Ask them to VOTE YES on House Bills HB125 -Adoption Services and HB158 -Adoption Advertising.

New Mexico Highlands University Adoption Help

Is adoption the right choice for you and for your child? How can you make a plan that will meet your needs and your child's needs?

We've put together some questions that can help you as you plan for your and your child's future. This isn't every question you may have, but it can get you started with some answers.

How can adoption be a good choice for my baby and me?
If you're not ready to be a parent, you can still give your baby the gift of life by choosing adoption.

Can I choose the family for my baby?
Yes! We have many adoptive couples who have been studied and are approved and waiting for a child.

How much will my child know about me?
Regardless of the type of adoption plan, you will want to provide a thorough social and medical history for your child. If you develop an adoption plan that includes ongoing contact, your child will know about you what you share with him/her.

Does the expectant father have any rights?
Both you and the expectant father have rights. If you disagree about adoption or you no longer have a relationship with him, we will work with him and/or the courts to determine his rights.

How can I be sure that my child will be well cared for?
There are standards that every prospective adoptive family must meet which are set by both this agency and the state of New Mexico. Families are thoroughly assessed before being approved for adoption, and a caseworker will make visits to the adoptive family after placement to ensure your child's well-being.

Do I need an attorney, or do I pay my agency to assist me with the adoption?
By using this licensed  adoption agency, you will not need an attorney, if you do need an attorney, we will pay those costs for you.  This agency provides all services to you at no cost.

Can I get help with medical and living expenses while I'm making an adoption plan?
Assistance with medical and living expenses is available through this agency. For details about how we can help you in your particular circumstances, contact us.

Experience Matters!
Since 1979, the Christian Child Placement Service has counseled expectant parents facing unplanned pregnancies, and aided them with their adoption plan.

We are located locally here in New Mexico; Christian Child Placement Service is the oldest adoption agency in the state of New Mexico.

Unplanned Pregnancy & Omega-3

Fish containing omega-3 aid in fetal brain development, many types of fish contain omega-3 and are healthy choices for pregnant women. Pregnant women should not eat fish that can be high in mercury, like shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish and albacore tuna. High levels of mercury can harm an unborn baby's developing nervous system.

Some omega-3 rich fish that are low in mercury include salmon, herring, anchovies, sardines and trout. Pregnant women should make sure all fish they eat is thoroughly cooked to kill any bacteria. A pregnant woman should not eat raw fish or sushi.

If a pregnant woman would like the benefits of omega-3 for their unborn baby but does not want to eat fish taking omega-3 supplements while pregnant is a great option.

After the baby is born from birth through college a child can be given a DHA vitamin supplement that contains omega-3 that will continue to aid in the child's brain development. A child’s brain does not stop developing until the early 20's.

Additionally taking omega-3 supplements while pregnant can aid in the child being less hyperactive while growing up. Also a child who is hyperactive who takes a DHA/omega-3 supplement will likely receive benefits from the DHA/omega-3 supplement, relieving some of the hyperactivity.

Adoption Help for New Mexico State University

Adoption may be an option that you are seriously considering. Or you may just be wondering what adoption is like. Or, you may feel that you could never choose adoption. Whatever your thoughts, it is always good to have information about all of your choices before you make a final decision.

Adoption might be a good choice for you and your baby, especially if you don't feel ready to be a parent just now. When you consider making an adoption plan for your child, that doesn't mean you don't love your baby. It also doesn't mean that you are taking the easy way out. What it does mean is that you are thinking about how to best meet needs: yours and your baby's, today and well into the future.

Adoption today may not be what you think. Openness has changed adoption. Today, adoption is not about severing relationships-it's about changing them. While it's true that with adoption, your parental rights and responsibilities are given to another set of parents,  there are different types of openness to meet different needs and levels of comfort. You owe it to yourself and your baby to at least get some information about the options available in adoption, so that whatever you choose, your decision is one that you have thought through and is based on facts.

There is no easy solution to an unplanned pregnancy. Each choice is hard and has its own difficulties. You can empower yourself by getting as much information as you can get about your options. Giving yourself time to consider carefully and weigh each option will help you make the right decision for you and your baby.

Unexpected Pregnancy, Baby Love - Substance Abuse

Whether or not you are experiencing a planned or unplanned pregnancy it is important to carefully consider what you give to your baby. If you smoke, use alcohol, take illegal drugs or abuse legal drugs, so does your unborn baby.

Quit smoking as quickly as possible once you find out you are pregnant, Smoking during pregnancy passes nicotine and cancer causing drugs to your baby. Smoke also prevents your baby from getting nourishment and raises the likely hood of the baby being boon early, possibly too early to live.

Also stop drinking alcohol. Alcohol can cause life-long physical and behavioral problems in children, including the baby being addicted to alcohol, fetal alcohol syndrome.

Drug use of any kind outside of your doctor’s supervision should be stopped. Illegal drug use or abusing legal drugs may cause underweight babies, birth defects or withdrawal symptoms after birth and behavior problems during childhood and beyond.

Get help if Smoking, Drinking Alcohol, Using Illegal Drugs or Abuse Legal Drugs are difficult for you to quit. Your health care provider, our agency, a friend, a relative can help you on your way to quit so both you and your baby will be better off.

2 things doctors wish you'd do for your baby during an unplanned pregnancy:

From http://www.babycenter.com/

1. Give up the idea of eating for two

Gaining too much weight during pregnancy makes you more likely to deliver early, develop preeclampsia (which can also lead to prematurity) or have a big baby, which makes delivery rougher on both of you. "That's a pretty big health risk for the baby," says obstetrician Laura Riley. "A little extra can be a bad thing."

Riley says many women pack on much more than the recommended poundage because they overestimate how many extra calories they need. An additional 300 a day – about what you'll get from two glasses of 1 percent milk, or an apple with two tablespoons of peanut butter – is all you need to fuel your baby's growth.

2. Check with your OB before going off your meds

Sure, many medications aren't safe for pregnancy. But sometimes the diseases they treat have more serious risks for your baby. "For instance, stopping antidepressants requires some thought and discussion," says Riley. Although some studies have linked antidepressant use during pregnancy to problems such as premature birth and low birth weight, others suggest that untreated depression could do the same. Wait until you hash out the risks and benefits with your doctor before you stop cold turkey. There can be birth defects with anti-seizure medicine, for example, but a grand mal seizure during pregnancy is much worse.

Advocates for Ethical Adoption Practice in New Mexico, Current Legislative Session

Dear Advocates for Ethical Adoption Practice in New Mexico:

We seek your help this Legislative Session.

Please contact these NM legislative committee members Feb 1st through Feb 7th, 2011 .

Ask them to vote YES on House bills HB125 (Adoption Services) and HB158 (Adoption Advertising).

THE PROBLEM Over the last ten years, adoption in New Mexico has fallen prey to profit-driven, out of state adoption businesses not licensed here.

We ask you to take 10 minutes this week to call for action on these two bills now before House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee. Help us close legal loop-holes used by predatory adoption businesses.

HB125 (Adoption Services) expands the definition of adoption service and requires NM licensure for those who provide those services within our state. It would also require an accounting to and approval from a NM Court for disbursements paid on behalf of an adoption before a NM child may be moved to another state, (provides more jurisdiction).

HB 158 (Adoption Advertising) would require that out of state adoption businesses not licensed or permitted to provide adoption services here to say so in their advertisements.

THIS WEEK (Feb 1-Feb 7th, 2011)

1) Call Representative Al Park’s office at 505 986-4411. Thank him for sponsoring HB125 and HB158.

To see the full legislation go to http://www.nmlegis.gov/

2) Call or email the 5 members of the House Consumer & Public Affairs Committee (below).

Ask them to VOTE YES on House Bills HB125 -Adoption Services and HB158 -Adoption Advertising. Attend this committee meeting to stand in support.
