Birthmoms...Even if you are not planning to have a baby yet...

No one expects an unplanned pregnancy. But they happen...every day.  In fact, about half of all pregnancies are not planned. That's why you should get enough folic acid every day if there's any chance you could get pregnant. Because by the time you know you're pregnant, your baby's brain and spine are already formed.

Eat Right...
Most of us get some folic acid in out diet every day. Folic acid has been added to some foods such as bread, pasta, rice & cereal.  Look at the labels to make sure.  A well-balanced diet with fruits and vegetables is always important.

...and take a vitamin
It is easy to be sure you are getting enough folic acid by taking a vitamin with folic acid in it. Try taking the vitamin with a meal, or at night just before bed. Another trick to not getting an upset stomach is to keep the vitamin in your freezer take it frozen and to take 1/2 of the vitamin at a time. They also make small folic acid pills with nothing else with it that are easy to swallow.

Birthmoms taking Folic Acid

Folic acid is a B vitamin that can be found in some enriched foods and vitamin pills.

This vitamin can prevent birth defects of the baby's brain & spine.

Brain defects can cause learning disabilities; can cause a defect that causes the baby to die shortly after birth, and more.

Spine defects can cause the baby to have the lower part of their body paralyzed so they will not have control of bowel or bladder.

Many birth defects can be prevented if women get enough folic acid every day.

Folic acid can help form a baby's brain and spine.

It takes a small effort to get enough Folic Acid but it makes a BIG difference.

Respecting Birthmothers, Adoptive families and Children

This article was featured in the the Portales/Clovis Newspaper by the Christian Child Placement Service:

In honor of November being National Adoption Awareness Month, the Christian Child Placement Service where I intern would like to draw attention to the importance of positive adoption language.
People with the best intentions can cause harm by using ill-informed words regarding those who have been involved in the adoption process. If people will change their vocabulary, everyone may feel more respected.
For example, if someone regards the biological parent as the “real parent,” it can imply the adoptive parent is illegitimate. A more positive approach would be to regard them as “biological.”Another example is when people say a child was “given up for adoption.” This can imply to the child they are not valuable. A more positive approach is to say the child was “placed” for adoption. When in doubt you may want to ask the people who have been involved in adoption what makes them feel respected. Here are some examples provided by Adoptive Families Magazine of how to change your vocabulary to positive adoption language.

• Birthparent instead of real parent;
• Biological instead of natural parent;
• Birth child instead of own child;
• My child instead of adopted child or own child;
• Born to unmarried parents instead of illegitimate;
• Terminate parental rights instead of give up;
• Make an adoption plan instead of give away;
• To parent instead of to keep;
• Waiting child instead of adoptable child or available child;
• Making contact with instead of reunion;
• Intercountry adoption instead of foreign adoption;
• Adoption triad instead of adoption triangle

Letter from Birthmother

This letter was written by one of our birthmothers to the adoptive family. …

“Dear Adoptive Parents,
I just watched the movie 'This Baby's Mine.'  It was a touching movie.  Now I kind of know how happy you all were to finally get a child.  And also how hard it would be to give her up.  I cryed for the birthmother and for the adoptive parents.  I love our baby so much. She changed so fast. I finally got a photo album. I have all of your letters and the picture s in a fire proof box. I never want to lose them….Give her all my love. Thank you for giving me and the baby an easier life. It was the best decision for all of us. Thank you and God bless you.”

As always,

Your Birthmother

Birthmoms Looking for Change

By: Julie Clinton, M.A.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
2 Corinthians 5:17

I love the classic movie, “Anne of Green Gables.” One of my favorite lines from Anne is, “Tomorrow is a brand new day with no mistakes in it!”

One of the best things about life is that tomorrow doesn’t have to be the same as today. You can learn new habits, get rid of unwanted old ones, and do something about it.

You can be secure that Christ’s love for you is unchanging. Being firm and secure in that knowledge allows you the freedom to make needed changes in your own life. Knowing that God really loves you includes understanding that He wants the best for you and is willing to help you get it. He will help and support you through the choices and changes you need to make. He will be with you all the way. James 1:8 says that if we lack wisdom we can go to Him and He will guide us.

Take a minute for personal reflection. Though God’s love is unchanging, how do you need to change in order to more fully embrace His love and friendship? Do you need to accept yourself before you can accept God’s love more fully? Do you need to forgive yourself and/or others before you bathe in His love? Do you need to trust your heavenly Father more?

Take your needs to Him in prayer. Yearn to be more like Him. Allow His unchanging love to change you!

A Baby Growing In The Mothers Womb

Around the 20th day after conception a baby's brain, spinal cord, and nervous system are already established. The 21st day the baby's heart begins to beat. At 35 days five fingers can be distinguished on the baby's hand. Around 40 days brain waves can be detected.

At the 8th week everything is now present that will be found in a fully developed adult. By the 13th week it is apparent that the baby is a boy or a girl.

The baby can hear by the 5th month of pregnancy and if born at this age children have lived out side the mothers womb. When you are 7 months pregnant the baby's fours senses are working; the baby's vision, hearing, taste, and touch are all intact.

The average pregnancy is 280 days, form the first day of the mother's last menstrual period until birth.

At the Christian Child Placement Service we know that choosing the best option with your pregnancy is a very difficult decision. We want to provide information on all of your options so you can make a fully informed decision.

A Birthmom's Thoughts on Adoption

How do you feel when people around you speak about adoption in a positive way?
Birthmom: "I've always liked referring to myself as the biological parent versus my sons actual parent.  I've hardly heard individuals talk positively about adoption except for the few very supportive friends or family I have who know me well enough.  Numerous individuals came up to me and confronted me about why I was choosing to not be "responsible".  This word got thrown around quite a bit.  A part of me wanted to respond sarcastically about how responsible my decision actually was."

How important is positive adoption language?
Birthmom: "Extremely.  It seems to me, most people stay sick because they keep adoption a secret and do not communicate enough about what's going on.  Not only that, I don't think people educate themselves enough without feeling intimidated by their counselors, agencies, or whatever.  People thus become as sick as their secrets.  the more information that's described about adoption, the better for all parties involved. Adoption language is certainly important and also complicated."

What are some of the reasons you chose the adoptive family you did?
Birthmom: "One of the many things that influenced me the most to pick the family that I had, was because they had a description about not being able to have children of their own. And when it comes to words, the fact they said they allowed their adoptive daughter at the time to play in the "dirt" caught my attention most of all. This lead me to believe that they didn't stereotype the lifestyles of the boys and girls, etc."

Thoughts on Communication:
Birthmom: "I would hope that the adoptive parents would be very open with as much information as they have to relay to the children when and if the children ask.  I've got a co-worker who has an adopted girl.  He tells his 4 year old that the mother was sick from her disease called addiction and that she's hopefully getting treatment. Who knows how much a 4 yr can understand about that, but at least it's been said accurately.  The coworker has of course, spoken in a positive way about adoption.  This is important to me because I get to see how much unconditional love and understanding this person has, along with how well the girl is treated in spite of any adversities."

This birthmom placed her child for adoption through the Christian Child Placement Service adoption agency several years ago.  We appreciate her continued communication with us!

Letter to Birthmother

This letter was written by one of our adoptive mothers who as a child had been adopted herself…She writes this particular letter to the birthmother of her child.

Dear Birthmother,

“I want you to know that there is absolutely no way I can look at adoption as a “second best” alternative. I know how much adoptive parents can love their children. I also, in some small sense have a grasp of the emotional turmoil you must be experiencing at this time. I understand, as only an adoptee can, the curiosity, the questions, and the emotions that your child will one day face. The fact that I am adopted is a large part of the reason that my husband and I want to adopt a child of our own…I want you to know that our child will always know that he or she is adopted and loved very much by you as well as us. He or she will be encouraged to share his or her feelings about adoption and any and all questions will be answered with the utmost honesty and straightforwardness as possible. …You will be regarded with only love and respect, always. “

I’m Considering Adoption vs. Abortion

Latino Actor Eduardo Verastegui speaks about unplanned pregnancy:

Choosing life for your unborn child affirms life! God has a plan for the child's life, that is why the baby was created! Having an abortion takes away the child’s chance to fulfill God's plan.

Adoption is a loving and unselfish decision that a mother in an unplanned pregnancy can make. Love is an action not just an emotion, taking action for the best interests of another person, regardless of one's emotions is love. One birth mother expressed this thought by saying, "I knew that my decision to place my daughter for adoption would be the hardest thing in the world for me. It was about my daughter. It was about what I could give her: a two parent home, a family, stability, a chance for a future."

If you are pregnant and need someone to talk to about all of your options, if you are considering adoption, if you have had an abortion, or are considering an abortion and need confidential factual counseling contact:

Unexpected Pregnancy, Considering Adoption

"He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge."
Psalm 91:4

This skit shows that no matter what we do Jesus' sacrifice for ALL of us covers us, and through his sacrifice he saves us.

"Greatest man in History, named Jesus, had no servants, yet they called Him Master. Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet he conquered the world. He committed no ...crime,... yet they crucified Him. He was... buried in a tomb, yet He lives today." author unknown

If you need help in an unexpected pregnancy, we are here to support you. We are all covered by Jesus' sacrifice for us, and no one is without fault. We would love to have the chance to assist you with your unplanned pregnancy.

Considering Adoption as a Loving Choice for my Baby

Adoption is a loving choice expectant parent’s make for their children when they are unable to parent.

"A Mother's Love"

She carried a child beneath her heart
How she must have loved her so
She knew that they must be apart
Even as she watched her belly grow

The swelling of her belly
The movement felt within
The time would soon be coming
When she must give up this, her kin

She struggled with the thoughts inside
The decision she must make
To give this child a chance in life
One she must not take

The day arrived, a winter day
The blizzard running wild
The birthing of her little girl
Her precious little child

It must have been so very hard
To bear this one and then
Whisper as she's whisked away
"Perhaps we'll meet again"

The world so cold and lonely
Arms empty as she leaves
None can know the special hurt
And times that she so grieves

To hold the one she gave away
But it had to be for good
She could not care as she would want
Perhaps another would

Dear mother wherever she may be
It must have been so hard
To give her for another to raise
Her life it will have scarred

As the years go by, she must think
At each and every year
That special day that she gave birth
And prayed for her daughter so dear

That day would be etched in her memory forever
To forget that time and her child? NEVER!
Is she all right wherever she'll be?
Perhaps to give anything once just to see

Somewhere in this world a little girl would live
Unaware of what her mother had given
And though it hurt her to the core
She gave her a new life - an open door.

How to put my baby up for adoption?

Words and music by Michael McLean

Adoption is the most loving and unselfish decision a mother in an unplanned pregnancy can make.

Making an adoption plan by using a reputable, licensed, full service, adoption agency gives birthparents protection and ongoing support after an adoptive placement.  If you would like more information about how to place a child for adoption contact us anytime.

I’m considering adoption?

Considering adoption as one of your options with your pregnancy is admirable!

Looking into all of your options with your pregnancy is wise and a selfless act.

The following song is "Everything to Me," by Mark Schultz; it is a beautiful song about a lady's choice to place her infant for adoption.

Mark Schultz was adopted as an infant and he tells his story behind the writing of the song "Everything to Me," in an interview. Here is a link to the YouTube video interview:

I’m pregnant, what are my options?

There are several options a mother has with her pregnancy.

• Parenting- keeping the child and raising it yourself
• Adoption- placing the child into an appropriately studied adoptive family
• Kinship adoption- having a family member adopt your child
• Temporary custody- placing the child with a friend or family member temporarily until you are able to care for the child again.
• Voluntary residential care- there are children's homes, boys & girls ranches, etc. that take voluntary family placements of children from families, and they raise them until the family is able to care for the children again.
• State aid- if choosing to parent you may qualify for state aid; i.e. food stamps, Medicaid, hud housing, etc.

If you would like to learn more about any of these options I would be happy to share information about them with you. Call any time!

How does it feel to give your baby up for adoption?

A poem written by a birthmother:

"Dear Daughter,

There is something I’ve always wanted to say.
It’s something I’ve thought about everyday.

I tried to say my goodbye’s on adoption day, like I knew I should.
I just want you to know, I never really could.
I never really said goodbye, although sometimes people wished I would.

But I carried you with me every day, and never let a memory of you go away.

Throughout your childhood I watched you grow.
I cherished each photo more than you’ll ever know!

I bragged about you often, like every mother does.
But I knew YOU really were the best their ever was!

Still a missing part of my heart, I wished did never depart.

Cause all I had were pictures and written tales about you. And I always knew there was so much more to YOU.

I cried so many nights, wishing I could hold you again. You were so used to my touch, way back then.

I prayed you would want to see me when would you grew older, and not give me the could shoulder. But I’d love you even if you did, because you are MY kid!

Now I can’t believe the passing of time is done!
I finally get to meet YOU and tell how proud I am of who you have become!

I’ll see you tomorrow. Please, don’t be nervous sweetie. I am so much just like you, and I’ll understand your heart no matter what you say or do.

Love, mom"

Should I give my baby up for adoption?

Some women who get pregnant that are unprepared to parent still choose to parent. One of the reasons they choose to parent unprepared is because they want someone to love them. They think that the baby will provide all the love they need, even when their back ground has lacked the love they needed from their parents, boyfriend, husband, etc.

What the expectant mother does not understand is that the baby cannot fill the void all of those other people have left. The baby is going to demand so much from them and depend on them explicitly. The baby is going to rely on them for food, shelter, safety, a nurturing environment, emotional support, stability, and much more.

In many situations the unprepared mother finds parenting more difficult than expected or too difficult just after a few weeks or a few months of trying to make a go of it. The unprepared mother finds her decision to parent; ... unsuccessful.

You cannot be unprepared and parent successfully.

It takes a mature person to look at all of the options they have with their unplanned pregnancy. A mature person makes a decision in the best interest of the child.

A birthparent is selfless and puts the needs of their baby first; when the birth mom finds out about all of the options, gets educated about the options, and then make an educated choice for their baby based on what they have learned, they are making an informed decision.

Making the best choice for your baby is a difficult path; but trying to parent unprepared will not provide a successful outcome and will also be extremely difficult...Please learn about your options and become educated about the path you are choosing for your baby.

Movie: Mother And Child (Trailer)

Realesd May 2010 "the movie "Mother and Child" (secular, rated R, fiction - from what I can tell), deals with members of the adoption triad - birth parents, adoptive parents, adoptees.

I have nto seen it yet, and am curious to.  I wonder if it is in response to the movie Juno. Even though Juno was crass and crude in parts, it showed the raw side of a birth mother's experience in adoption, which is hard to watch, but ultimately set adoption as a positive option for birth parents. We may not all agree with Juno's means to an end, but the message was still that adoption is a good option that should be explored by those in an unplanned pregnancy.

No matter the outcome with this movie, we can all be thankful that adoption is getting more attention right now in areas other than news, politics and debates about abortion, and offering more opportunities for it to be discussed and considered. Whether we like the movie or not, I hope we will be willing to join in or start some healthy discussions about it with people. I am convinced that even the pro-abortion community can support the adoption option.

Facing Life Head-On: Insider Exposes Planned Parenthood, (Part 2 Episode Clips)

Watch the full episode online at http://www.facinglife.tv/

Abby Johnson shares how just before the end of her employment with Planned Parenthood she took part in an abortion of a 13 week old unborn baby. Abby stated that she could see on the ultrasound monitor a perfect profile of the 13 week old baby before the abortion.

During the abortion Abby stated that she could see on the monitor the probe that is used in the abortion to remove the baby from the uterus began to poke the baby. Abby reported that the baby was trying to get away from the probe and that the baby could feel being aborted.

Abby stated as part of her job at Planned Parenthood she answered questions that the women had. She reported that many of the women that asked her questions, asked "Will my baby feel the abortion?" and she told them NO. Abby stated she was trained to say that the baby's don't feel the abortion by Planned Parenthood proving again that Planned Parenthood lies to women.

Facing Life Head-On: Insider Exposes Planned Parenthood (Part 1 Episode Clips)

Watch the full episode online at http://www.facinglife.tv/

Abby Johnson shares how Planned Parenthood does not provide the options counseling they say they do. She stated that the "family planning" department of Planned Parenthood agenda is not to share all of the options a woman has with an unplanned pregnancy, but to encourage the woman to get abortion.

Before a woman may even know she is pregnant at week 3, the child's sex cells form, the foundation of the brain forms, the spinal cord and nervous system began to form. At week 4 the child's heart beat begins, eyes, ears, and lungs also began to form...all before she has missed her first period. Abby stated that Planned Parenthood would not have shared this information with a woman sitting in their clinic.

We provide options counseling on ALL of your options with your unplanned pregnancy. We don't have an agenda like Planned Parenthood; we are here to provide a free service for you so you can make a fully informed decision about your unplanned pregnancy.

To Save A Life - Official Teaser Trailer [HD]

TO SAVE A LIFE: A movie that contains stories of suicide, attempted abortion, divorce, placing a child for adoption, and yet in the midst of all the tragedy…true LIFE. It may sound like an odd juxtaposition…but that’s what happens when a person invites Jesus into their heart…Like in the movie, the main character Jake Taylor had tried to find life in many things: popularity, alcohol, sex, and sports….In the end those things left him feeling thirstier, not to mention had some serious consequences. When the character accepted Christ into his heart, there was a profound change. His life was saved, and …In turn Jake wanted “To Save a Life.”

If you have tried to find satisfaction in the world, and the world has left you for dry, maybe you should turn to the one who says: “Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water [literal water] will be thirsty again, but who ever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." John 4:13

Martian Child Official Movie Trailer

Martian Child is a movie that will inspire you to love children that are unloved in the world. This 2007 film tells a story of a recently widowed man, David Gordon (played by John Cusack) who decides to adopt a 6 year old boy who has been abandoned in the world. Although the adoptive father is discouraged by some critics from adopting, he says “I don't want to bring another kid into this world. But how do you argue against loving one that's already here?” This is a must see movie!

Who would God adopt?

As I was going through applications, and the section that indicates the type of child the adoptive family would like to adopt, I began considering what God would write in the blanks. Who would God desire to adopt? This is what I think it would look like....What do you think?
Prospective Adoptive Family Application

Name: GOD

Type of child desired
Number of children willing to adopt: As many as willing to accept my invitation. My house is big! (John1:12, John 14:2)

Age: infant, child, teen, adult, elderly! Any and all! (John1:12)

Race: Invites people from every nation, tribe, people and language (Revelation 7:9)

Medical conditions willing to accept: Gladly welcomes and has compassion for children with a handicap or disability (Mark 6:53-57, Mark 3:1-5, Luke 14:21-24).

What does God think about adoptions?

Have you ever wondered what God thinks about adoptions? It seems that it is a very important question if you are a Christian and at all considering adopting. Consider a passage in Ephesians 1:3-6 that shares a message about adoption:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5he predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.”

It seems from reading this passage that adoption is not the idea of men, but it comes straight—from God. “In love he predestined us for adoption.” This passage indicates that adoption was not an afterthought of God’s; it was not a backup plan. As author John Piper states, “He didn’t discover one day that against his plan and foreknowledge humans had sinned and orphaned themselves in the world, and then come up with the idea of adopting them into his family. No, Paul says, he predestined adoption. He planned it” (Piper 2004 ). If you are considering adoptions, be encouraged that it is God’s idea, plan and purpose. By adopting ourselves, we model a plan that God has set in motion before the foundation of the world!

Making the best choice for your baby.

The baby is going to rely on them for food, shelter, safety, a nurturing environment, and much more.

In many situations the unprepared mother finds parenting more difficult than expected or too difficult just after a few weeks or a few months of trying to make a go of it. The unprepared mother finds her decision to parent;  the self centered decision to parent ... unsuccessful.

You cannot be unprepared and parent successfully.

Choosing to parent unprepared is selfish.

It takes a mature person to look at all of the options. A mature person can make a decision in the best interest of the child.

A birthparent is selfless and puts the needs of their baby first when they find out about all of their options, get educated about the options, and then make an educated choice for their baby based on what they have learned.

Making the best choice for your baby is a difficult path; but trying to parent unprepared will not provide a successful out come...So learn about your options and become educated about the path you are choosing for your baby.

What adoptive parents will raise my baby?

Adoptive parents have to "jump through hoops" to be parents.

Adoptive parents are screened before they can "qualify" for parenting your child.

The screening of the prospective adoptive parents is a long process and includes home visits by a social worker, interviews, criminal background checks, medical clearances, psychological screenings, and much more.

We have families that are waiting to adopt that have finished the screening process.

Choosing adoption and placing your baby into an adoptive home is a selfless act! Thinking about your baby’s needs first and setting your feelings aside takes a lot of courage.

Call us today to look at adoptive family profiles to select a prospective adoptive family for your baby.

How do I start the adoption process?

How do I start the adoption process?

Just call us we are licensed adoption professionals and we will walk you through the process. You are not making a commitment to release your baby for adoption by just calling to collect information.

We can help you understand what the options in adoption are.

We can also inform you with the screening process what the prospective adoptive parents do to prepare for adopting a baby.

The more information you gather and learn about adoption the more help you have to make the right decision for your baby.

A concern that some people may have is:

"If I release my baby for adoption, people will talk about me."

People are likely to gossip about whatever your decision is. You need to make the best choice for your baby and for you. We all have had to survive gossip in school and elsewhere, learning to tune out the people that talk a lot helps us be happier people.

Since people are going to talk no matter what, make it clear you chose to think about your baby's best interests...they will admire that!

Single Parenthood

Have you ever felt afraid, alone, embarrassed, guilty, overwhelmed, in shock all at the same time? A positive pregnancy test for a single lady may emerge all of these results at the same time.

The baby that the single lady is carrying is not an accident! When a male and female have sexual intercourse the primary result could be a pregnancy. Some people who are partaking in sexual activity may not even regard that as a possibility when agreeing to have sex.

Whether or not the male and female thought about the possibility of getting pregnant they now find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy.

Decisions about raising the baby as a single mother, or making an adoption plan with a two parent family are both difficult ones.

The media does not portray adoption correctly most of the time just like they do not portray single parenthood correctly either. The media tends to glamorize single parenthood and put down making a responsible adoption plan. Single parenthood is so difficult, and the media does not show a realistic view of it normally.
