Unexpected Pregnancy, Baby Love - Substance Abuse

Whether or not you are experiencing a planned or unplanned pregnancy it is important to carefully consider what you give to your baby. If you smoke, use alcohol, take illegal drugs or abuse legal drugs, so does your unborn baby.

Quit smoking as quickly as possible once you find out you are pregnant, Smoking during pregnancy passes nicotine and cancer causing drugs to your baby. Smoke also prevents your baby from getting nourishment and raises the likely hood of the baby being boon early, possibly too early to live.

Also stop drinking alcohol. Alcohol can cause life-long physical and behavioral problems in children, including the baby being addicted to alcohol, fetal alcohol syndrome.

Drug use of any kind outside of your doctor’s supervision should be stopped. Illegal drug use or abusing legal drugs may cause underweight babies, birth defects or withdrawal symptoms after birth and behavior problems during childhood and beyond.

Get help if Smoking, Drinking Alcohol, Using Illegal Drugs or Abuse Legal Drugs are difficult for you to quit. Your health care provider, our agency, a friend, a relative can help you on your way to quit so both you and your baby will be better off.
